Lindenstrasse

January 10, 2009 · 2 Comments

One year after and the next moving is very close. Probably one block further but in a flat with the double surface.

Compare the pictures in these posts:

The window-tree there will be high!

"The fifties"

This picture is taken on a stroll in the city from the day of this post: Photographical memo

The architect would say fascinated: “the fifties!”
I am not sure if this or other typical “fifties fascinations” are really plant or built in the fifties. Maybe many of them came from the fifties and the sixties. You can find examples less or more often, in many countries. It is something that makes you imagine that, these kind of buildings are a product of a short time of beauty after the Second World War and before the mass-market-media era. Maybe we see in a subconsciously manner some appearance of the beauty from the visionary way of thinking on the twenties, which unfortunately capped from two big wars and the fascism. This optimistic view passed thru to the new generations in the sixties and the early seventies. But, it’s capped again. Some buildings remain and the Swiss bank can buy their beauty.

I was there with junior in the sling. He was quiet because the most of the time he was sleeping.

The rays of the Sunlight in these pictures are passing through the glass pane on the window which is designed from the artist Gerhard Richter for the Cologne Cathedral. Gerhard Richter is considered by some critics as one of the most important European artists and is also one of the world’s most expensive, with his paintings often selling for several million dollars apiece.

The Bishop, Joachim Kardinal Meisner was also there. Another time I have to devote a post to some of his choices for architecture and art.

Some short videos from the same occasion:

Consideration

April 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Cologne, Thursday April 15, 2008

This view is from the windows of the Greek consulate in Cologne. What a coincidence!

Consideration means in German „die Gegenleistung“ but the meaning of this word in combination with this picture, is something that the architects and friends from Greece understand much better then anyone else: «αντιπαροχή»

Redressing is not the changing of clothes. In Greek redressing is «επανόρθωση» and in German „die Wiedergutmachung“
