A in-between stage of a plan

This is just a in-between stage of a plan. A break on my carpet work doing something else for two days, like I said here >>

In July, there was a pause for me working on something else but since the first of August I am watching again almost every day this thousand lines on the screen. I realise this now because I have again a break doing something else for two days. I call it “the carpet” because it last so long to finish a façade, and as soon as the plans are finished, something chances in the wishes or the needs for the building.

The architect would say fascinated: “the fifties!”
I am not sure if this or other typical “fifties fascinations” are really plant or built in the fifties. Maybe many of them came from the fifties and the sixties. You can find examples less or more often, in many countries. It is something that makes you imagine that, these kind of buildings are a product of a short time of beauty after the Second World War and before the mass-market-media era. Maybe we see in a subconsciously manner some appearance of the beauty from the visionary way of thinking on the twenties, which unfortunately capped from two big wars and the fascism. This optimistic view passed thru to the new generations in the sixties and the early seventies. But, it’s capped again. Some buildings remain and the Swiss bank can buy their beauty.

Work, work, work

Actually I don’t have time for bloging because I work a lot the last months, almost since the beginning of this year. (I work for this office of an ex professor from my studies in the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf). But at the same time see a lot, I take many pictures and I made some old and new syllogisms witch I would like to notice here. I try to use English so I don’t have to write in two languages (Greek and German). I said to myself, that at this period the only thing it is permitted for me to do in this blog, is to put some pictures. Some English words under the photographs will be enough. But even that is lot of work because I produce every day new pictures in a half journalistic way.

I will keep trying with better time management.

Consideration means in German „die Gegenleistung“ but the meaning of this word in combination with this picture, is something that the architects and friends from Greece understand much better then anyone else: «αντιπαροχή»

Jean Prouvé

Jean Prouvé (8 April 1901 – 23 March 1984)
was a French architect and designer.

Jean Prouvé (* 8. Απριλίου 1901 στο Παρίσι; † 23. Μαρτίου 1984 στο Nancy), υπήρξε γάλλος αρχιτέκτονας και σχεδιαστής. Μαθήτευσε στην αρχή σαν μηχανουργός και θεωρείται ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς κατασκευαστές του 20ου αιώνα. Η κεντρική του προσπάθεια ήταν να μεταφέρει τις τεχνικές παραγωγής της βιομηχανίας στην αρχιτεκτονική χωρίς να χάνεται η αισθητική ποιότητα.

Ένα σημαντικό τμήμα του έργου του αφιέρωσε ο Jean Prouvé στο σχεδιασμό επίπλων. Παράλληλα τα έπιπλά του στόχευαν όχι μόνο να είναι λειτουργικά, και υψηλής αισθητικής ποιότητας, αλλά και να μπορούν να κατασκευάζονται φθηνά. Σήμερα ακόμη είναι γνωστά και κατασκευάστηκαν σε επανέκδοση. Παράδειγμα, το “Fauteuil de Grand Repos”.

Πολλοί διάσημοι αρχιτέκτονες και σχεδιαστές αναφέρονται στον Jean Prouvé σαν πρότυπο ο οποίος μέσα από το έργο του, τους ενέπνευσε. Μετάξι άλλων οι Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel και Norman Foster.

«Είμαι ένας εργάτης που απλώς έκανε τη δουλειά του. Ήθελα να χτίσω με τα πιο σύγχρονα υλικά που μπορούσα να βρω όταν έφτιαχνα πράγματα. Αυτό μ’ ενδιέφερε. Κάθε περίοδος σημαδεύεται από τον καιρό της, αλλά σκέφτομαι καθώς μιλάμε για αρχιτεκτονική στο παρόν, εκτός από μερικές εξαιρέσεις, τίποτα δεν σημαδεύει την εποχή μας. Νομίζω ότι είναι λυπηρό και θα έπρεπε να είναι η εξαίρεση. Ότι φτιάχτηκε στο μεγαλύτερο πλήθος του είναι άσχημο, φρικτό, παραπλανητικό, πλαστογραφημένο. Γι’ αυτό νομίζω ότι είναι σοβαρό το πρόβλημα. Δεν μπορείς να πεις από τι είναι φτιαγμένα τα πράγματα. Χρησιμοποιείται οτιδήποτε αρκεί να φαίνεται σαν κάτι ήδη γνώριμο. Στο τέλος είναι μια απολογία για φορμαλισμό. Και για μένα ο φορμαλισμός είναι το αρνητικό της αρχιτεκτονικής».

Τα παραπάνω λόγια του Jean Prouvé τα άκουσα σε μια μικρή ταινία αφιερωμένη στο έργο του. Μπορεί να μας φαίνεται σκληρός στην κριτική του αλλά νομίζω ότι αυτή η στάση γίνεται καλύτερα κατανοητή αν λάβει κανείς υπόψιν του ότι μερικοί συνήθως πρωτοπόροι μιλούν με βάση το όραμά τους και τα ασυνήθιστα για την εποχή τους κριτήρια και όχι μέσα από τον συμβατική καθημερινότητα στην οποία αναπόφευκτα ζούμε. Ακόμη κι αυτό το βήμα της απελευθέρωσης από τις δεδομένες συμβάσεις, θέλει σθένος και αντοχή απέναντι στις αποτυχίες που συνεπάγονται οι πειραματισμοί και οι δοκιμές καινούριων δρόμων στους οποίους βέβαια αρνείται να μπει το μεγάλο κοινό (όλοι εμείς δηλαδή) μέχρι να ανιχνευθούν από τους τολμηρούς.
